In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Yesterday's Enterprise, an alternate timeline Tasha Yar and the crew of the time displaced Enterprise-C returned to the past to fight a losing battle against the Romulans as history recorded. As revealed in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Redemption II, Romulan officer Commander Sela was the daughter of this alternate timeline Tasha Yar and an unnamed Romulan general.

What would it be like growing up as half human and half Romulan in a paranoid, xenophobic, authoritarian society like the Romulan Empire? A Sela series would explore this and other questions of identity, freedom of expression, and culture as it follows the development of Sela into the competent and effective Romulan soldier and intelligence operative seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It would begin with Sela as a child crying out to the guards as she realizes that Tasha Yar is trying to take her away from her home, her father, and the only life she as ever known. It would then follow Sela as she wrestles with her identity, overcomes prejudice, attends school, and joins the military.
