9 Totally Stupid Things That Doctor Who Fans Say

3. "Doctor Who Is Sexist/Racist/Ageist..."

Tumblr Inline Mnul4jasmq1qz4rgp2 Gif You name it and Doctor Who has been accused of being it. Not an episode goes by without the writers being arraigned of harbouring some secret political agenda and most of the time you can't help but wonder if it's just bored viewers trying to complain about things that aren't even there. But can you honestly accuse Doctor Who of being sexist, ageist, racist and all of the above when it's under so much scrutiny that anything even bordering the untoward would be eliminated by the powers that be during the editorial stages? The BBC are goody two shoes at the worst of times so it's hard to imagine that they'd risk anything controversial slipping through the net in one of their most watched flagship franchises. They can be stupid, but they're not that stupid. Most recently, the show came under fire when it was suggested that the Twelfth Doctor was being sexist towards Clara Oswald by constantly putting her down. Yeah, that's pretty out of order, but within the context of the show, he's an alien (which, even after 51 years, is something that a lot of people seem to forget), so his values are different to ours. He always gets brought up on his mistakes, too, and in that scenario it was usually by Clara Oswald slapping him in the face. Brilliant.
