Thanks to the dominance of streaming services and premium cable channels, many people believe this is a golden age of TV. Traditional networks have been pushed to try harder and create more interesting offerings. TV viewers are frequently left to choose between a myriad of options suited to even the most refined palate.

But it's not just new content. Those same streaming services also offer an incredible range of classic television series to choose from. The only problem is deciding where to start.

This is the era of binge-watching - of placing yourself in front of your TV and letting a series wash over you for hours on end. If it's the right series, it's a highly enjoyable experience and a great chance to try out something new or revisit an old friend. And some shows were just made to be watched that way.

Regardless, just remember to buy snacks and forget that the outside world even exists.

9. Letterkenny

Letterkenny started its existence as a series of YouTube shorts about life in the fictional community of Letterkenny, Ontario, Canada. The rural hijinks of Wayne, Daryl, Katy and Squirrelly Dan made their way to the streaming service Crave, then Hulu, as a full sitcom style series. Now, there are six seasons each containing six episodes as well as a handful of holiday-themed specials.

But be forewarned: the characters speak in an extremely specific shorthand that's familiar to most rural Canadians. That being said, once you're in the rhythm of their conversations, the show is extremely funny. Letterkenny is genuinely unique and engaging, willing to put a comedic spin on some surprisingly weighty topics while still being earnest and emotional.

Even in its short run, this show has managed to weave a distinct mythology that is worth an afternoon of watching.
