Agents Of Shield: 5 Ways To Improve The Show

2. Case-Of-The-Week No More

While the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made a small attempt to suggest further storyline possibilities in the pilot with the mention of the Extremis threat, it seems like that for now it is content to mainly work as an episodic case-of-the week TV show. This works well for shows like Law and Order, but television has changed for the better over the last half decade and that formula is no longer necessary to have a successful drama.

It€™s harder for audiences to care about the narrative of the show when they know that the problems are all going to be wrapped up neatly at the end of the hour. This would be fine if the characters were well-developed and likable, but right now the cast is struggling to find their footing. This show doesn€™t need the tightly developed rock solid narrative of Breaking Bad, but if it wants to be a classic show, it should bring in a long form narrative that lasts a season or more.
