1. Phil Coulson
Who He Is: Phil Coulson is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hes the connective thread between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the television series, and hes had a hand in almost all of the major plots of the three seasons so far.
Why He Could Die: All signs indicate that the final showdown of the season will be Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. against Hive/Ward and Hydra. Although Fitz-Simmons are at least somewhat to blame for Hive/Ward making it back to Earth, the fault ultimately lies with Coulson for lingering on Maveth to crush Ward. His quest for revenge has backfired rather spectacularly, so there would be poetic justice if he gives his life in service of defeating the monster that he unleashed on mankind. Besides, Coulson doesnt have the same unique expertise as most of the other agents. If he werent the lead, he would be the most disposable.
Why He Might Not: Putting Coulson at the top of this list is admittedly swinging for the fences. Coulson is the only Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character to have appeared in the movies as well as on network television, so killing him off is a move that Marvel might not permit.
