13. Why Is Coulson Still Alive?

That's a good question. Agent Coulson was tragically impaled by Loki in Avengers, wasn't he? Surely it would cheapen his death to just have him magically return to life, good as new. Well, the show had some pretty strange answers for us: 1. Nick Fury ordered his resurrection immediately after the Battle of New York through various drastic surgeries, including one where his brain was picked at and put back together by a multi-pronged robot that also gave him false memories of recovering in Tahiti. It's a magical place. 2. Fury also put some alien blood in Coulson which had magic healing properties. Phil found this alien at a secret SHIELD facility when the team were trying to find a miracle cure for resident hacker Skye's gunshot wound. It's unclear what race the alien belongs to at this point, but the smart money's on it being Kree. 3. When Coulson asked Nick Fury why they went to the trouble of bringing him back, the former Director of SHIELD told him that it was because he didn't want to lose an Avenger. Which kind of makes all the silliness worth it.
