Agents Of SHIELD: 8 Theories On Skye's Parents' Identity

8. The Mandarin

This isn't a reference to the villain seen in Iron Man 3, who wasn't the real Mandarin but an actor called Trevor Slattery. Any future film or series could do a great deal worse than having Ben Kingsley play the real one too, such was the quality of the Mandarin seen by all before the big reveal/twist. In a one-shot scene with Slattery in Seagate Prison, it was revealed that there is a real Mandarin out there and he€™s pissed at Slattery for pretending to be him. But if he€™s all scarred up and oozing some sort of liquid as seen at the end of the first season of AoS, then it would explain why he€™s kept in the shadows until now. Perhaps he could use Trevor as his public front much as Aldrich Killian did €“ although hopefully a great deal more effectively. At the end of the All Hail The King short, Slattery was dragged out of prison by a member of the Ten Rings terrorist group to be taken to the real Mandarin. As for the potential connection between the real Mandarin and Skye, it€™s probably the loosest you€™ll see on this list€ she was found in China and the Mandarin comes from the same country. Plus the shot of Skye€™s father was similar to several panels involving the Mandarin, including the cover of Tales of Suspense #50 where he was first introduced.
