Agents Of Shield: 8 Things That Will Need To Change After Captain America 2

5. HYDRA

As seen in Captain America: The Winter Solder, HYDRA is back and in a big way. This cannot be ignored in Agents of SHIELD, but do bear in mind that their primary mission has been against the Clairvoyant's team. Agent Sitwell made an appearance in the most recent two episodes, who of course is revealed to be a HYDRA agent in the film. But a recent casting has suggested that viewers can expect to see some HYDRA action coming soon in the series. Patton Oswalt has been announced as playing Agent Eric Koenig in an upcoming episode. Oswalt isn't a member of HYDRA in the 616 community, but was a member of the Hitler Youth and then the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. He then switched sides and joined up with the Howling Commandos and later joined SHIELD when it was formed. Given that the series isn't set during the Second World War, and it doesn't seem likely that there are going to be flashbacks anytime soon, so expect to see Koenig instead to appear as a member of HYDRA who instead was working with Fury as a mole. This role was also seen in the 616 universe when Koenig was Fury's mole after SHIELD was dismantled and replaced with Norman Osborn's HAMMER. The MCU likes to re-use ideas but not in the exact same way, and Koenig will almost certainly be a HYDRA link in an upcoming episode. This would be a clever way to introduce the faction to the television series without detracting from the existing storylines.
