Ahsoka Episode 2 Review - 5 Ups & 2 Downs

2. Up - A Sentimental Villain

Ahsoka Tano
Lucasfilm

Two episodes in and there are already five antagonists set to challenge Ahsoka throughout the series. Joining Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati are Marrok, the Nightsister Morgan, and of course there will also be Grand Admiral Thrawn.

This feels like too many to move forward with, as the chances for development and true characterisation for each will dwindle. It feels inevitable that at least one will fall soon, or could they potentially join Ahsoka’s side instead?

The most likely for the latter seems to be Skoll. The man was trained as a Jedi, and after surviving Order 66 turned to the Dark Side. However, he clearly still has a soft spot for the Order as there are so few left. He told Morgan he would regret having to kill Ahsoka, so maybe this is his first step towards joining her against Thrawn.

Even if he doesn’t follow in the steps of Kallus’ redemption arc, this was still a touching scene. Villains are all too often portrayed as one-dimensional characters, but this moment immediately granted Baylan more depth and actually humanised him. Regardless of whether he sticks or twists, Baylan Skoll benefitted greatly from such a scene.
