Almost Human: 4 Things The Show Needs To Succeed In 2014

3. A Better Balance of Humor and Drama

Despite some pretty dark and gritty crime elements, the show has remained pretty comedic throughout all eight episodes. In fact, it might rely a bit too much on the humor, and is often more of a comedy than a drama. Which is fine, if the show is a comedy than great; but in presenting itself as a science fiction thriller, the show is cutting itself short by resorting a bit too much to laughs. This is truest with the Dorian/Kennex relationship. The show is, at its core, a buddy-cop show, but as fun as that can be during the course of the episode, the show is severely lacking a sense of heart. We don't really care about Kennex and Dorian, we're more enamored by them. If we were really given a reason to get invested and to feel for these characters with each passing episode, it would be easier to get engaged and root for them to succeed.
