5. The Fission Igniter
One of things the hostage-takers demand is a fission igniter, which Dorian refers to as the trigger for a megaton explosive device. It's interesting that John doesn't know what it is, meaning it is either top secret or hasn't been used in warfare before. Capt. Maldonado calls it "military grade" technology, something she isn't able to get a hold of (especially in the short 43-minute window she's given). This prompts her to call Rudy Lom to make a decoy igniter, thankfully giving him a reason to be in this episode, even if for a short time. Expect the fission bomb to reappear sometime later in the show. The writers wouldn't (pardon my pun) drop a bomb like this without having a plan for it later on. We've already seen glimpses that crime is on an unprecedented rise and that society is in a bit of disarray, so some escalation and potential uprising could be in order.
