American Dad: 5 Greatest Roger Personas

5. Jeannie Gold- Shallow Vows

"don't go into shock today's not about you"

So Stan and Francine's twentieth wedding anniversary is just around the corner and true to form, he's forgotten all about their big day. To avoid his wife's wrath, he goes along with Roger's idea to renew their marriage vows and cuts him a cheque for $6800 to organise the ceremony- but who is that cheque made out to? None other than Jeannie Gold, wedding planner extraordinaire.

Of all the zany personalities Roger has assumed, Jeannie Gold is by far one of the most competent. Besides having the talent to organise three weddings at the drop of a hat she has a keen eye for detail, can patch up bodily wounds in five seconds flat and isn't above drugging the bride, doling out hand-jobs or hiring shady knife-wielding maniacs to ensure the day goes without a hitch.

Another great thing about Jeannie is that her character holds up reasonably well against a real life backdrop. Take a look through any wedding album and you'll find the same plum suit, blonde hair combo (or its floral equivalent) attached to a middle aged spinster with grown up children you always hear her bragging about but rarely meet. Though no-one knows exactly who she is, you can pretty much guarantee you'll never see her again anyway- until the next formal occasion rolls around of course. Roger doesn't get round to explaining how he managed to whip up two college-grad children to support his fabricated life, but sure enough they too vanish into thin air by the end of the episode never to be seen or heard of again.

Overall, Jeannie is the highlight in an otherwise forgettable episode in the American Dad canon, and if we put the 'dirty barnyard stuff' she keeps on her computer as well as her thriving prostitute business at her Argentina office into perspective she actually comes off on the saner side of Roger's creations. Her methods might be unorthodox, but if I ever needed a last minute wedding sorted out she'd be my first port of call.
