American Horror Story: 10 Best Minor Characters

2. Papa Legba

Shelley American Horror Story Asylum
FX

Introduced in Coven and returning along with the Miss Robichaux's Academy Witches in Apocalypse, Papa Legba is the Loa gatekeeper to the afterlife and the being charged with keeping the scales between the living and the dead finely balanced.

Portrayed by Lance Reddick and his whimsical accent, Papa Legba's distinctive look and witty remarks help him dominate every single scene he's in and completely sell the feel of being in the presence of a powerful voodoo spirit. Papa Legba is shown to be a sadistic and cruel figure at times, turning on the likes of Marie Laveau when she refused to give him a soul and revelling in the eternal torture inflicted on Fiona Goode, though this evil is presented in a more unique way than other characters in the show.

Unlike other enemies and figures in the show, Papa Legba's evil comes purely from a lawful and fair position. He has to first be summoned by someone, he runs through the contract he presents them with and he always keeps up his side of the deal after all.

Deeply rooted in the spiritual history of voodo, Papa Legba is a wonderfully handled addition to the AHS universe and fits in beautifully alongside his fellow witches and warlocks.
