American Horror Story: 10 Interesting Theme Ideas For Future Seasons
5. Russian Sleep Experiment
If you're a fan of Creepypasta, then you should know the story of the Russian Sleep Experiment. An insane and creepy-as-hell work of fiction, the story is centred around a 1940's Russian experiment where the researchers kept five political prisoners deemed enemies of the state awake for fifteen days using an experimental gas based stimulant. Because it was before video cameras or reality television, they had only microphones and 5-inch thick glass porthole sized windows into the chamber to monitor them. The chamber was stocked with books, cots to sleep on but no bedding, running water and toilet, and enough dried food to last all five for over a month. The subjects had gone mad over time, some died, and some were screaming and fighting and begging to be freed, until one day all sound from inside the chamber stopped. Three days later, the researchers told the subjects that they would be coming in to test the microphones, to which one of them said, "we no longer want to be freed". When the researchers entered, some had eaten their own flesh, were terrified to leave the chamber and put up a huge fight. This would be a really great angle for American Horror Story to take, even if it was a Russian experiment.
