American Horror Story: 10 Most Hated Episodes
6. Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (S7E2)
The first episode from American Horror Story's seventh season to appear on this list (but not the last), "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" introduced interesting new characters into the season... but that's about it.
Continuing to build on the growing paranoia and ham-fisted message that fear turns anyone into what they hate most, the second episode is filled with more clowns scaring the daylights out of Sarah Paulson's Ally. The fear becomes too much for her after she discovers a clown in her bed. Caricature liberal Ally goes out and buys a gun to protect her home, easily throwing away her beliefs and letting her paranoia overpower her logic. Fans usually enjoy Paulson's emotional acting, but it felt like the writers wanted to see how many episodes (and how long) they could get him to cry on screen.
The predictability of the season's message was already thrown in the audience's face in the premiere episode of the season (more on that later) and continuing to play it up to its extremes was tiring.
Even with the introduction of new couple, the Wiltons, the repetitiveness of the episode and character extremes may be making a point... but it's not one the fans need to be told every five minutes.
