American Horror Story: 10 Saddest Deaths

Set in a wintery Cape Cod, Red Tide (the first segment of Double Feature) saw a success-hungry author discover that he could unlock the full potential of his creativity by taking a mysterious black pill. If the user is talented, they'll achieve brilliance but develop a hungering appetite for blood. If they're merely mediocre, though, they'll be transformed into a shambling husk.

Caught in the middle of the blood and mayhem that ensues in this seaside town is an eccentric local dubbed Tuberculosis Karen, who's played by AHS veteran Sarah Paulson.

A talented artist who'd rather live a life of depravity than take the pills, Karen is forced to do the dirty work for the vampires. Her only loyal friend is fellow addict and aspiring screenwriter Mickey. But when he swallows the pills and becomes successful, he offers Karen the opportunity to have the life she's always wanted.

To Karen, though, the price is simply too much. After Mickey forces her to take the pill in a cruel ultimatum, she decides that she'd rather die than become a monster.

Leaving her masterpiece and Mickey's body on the beach, Karen slits her wrists and walks into the ocean.
