American Horror Story: 10 Saddest Deaths

4. Sister Mary Eunice

American Horror Story Violet Death

Making her debut in the first season, the sensationally talented Lily Rabe has since become an invaluable asset to the anthology's ensemble. Appearing in every season except Cult, Rabe has portrayed numerous fan favourite characters. But it's the unfortunate end to Sister Mary Eunice from Asylum which sees Rabe appear on this list.

A kindly but timid nun working at the nefarious Briarcliff Manor, Mary Eunice spent the first part of the season living under the thumb of Jessica Lange's domineering Sister Jude and the devious Dr Arden. But everything changes when Eunice becomes possessed by the devil during a botched exorcism.

From herein, the once sweet nun is transformed into one of the series main antagonists, becoming a murderous and manipulative vessel for evil who'll do whatever she can to cause chaos within the asylum.

Despite her satanic tendencies, however, the real Mary Eunice remained present within her body. It was only when Monsignor Timothy Howard was able to appeal directly to her purity that an exhausted Mary was able to briefly take back control.

Just as Mary looks to be saved, though, the monsignor throws her to her death, which she solemnly accepts.

If anyone in AHS deserved to live, it was Sister Mary Eunice.
