Sarah Paulson American Horror Story

Sarah Paulson is the undisputed queen of Ryan Murphy's masterful American Horror Story series. Along with the equally prolific Evan Peters, she has starred in eight of the current nine seasons of the show (both actors were missing from the recent installment, 1984), and has made each season better simply by turning up.

Paulson has played a wide range of characters during her long tenure on the show, from moral heroes to twisted antagonists. Often the heart and soul of the show regardless of her good or evil intentions, she is constantly a blast to watch, and remains one of the main reasons fans are still turning up to watch the series even after so many epic seasons.

Though missing from 1984, she has been confirmed to be returning once more for AHS's much anticipated tenth season, and with her track record she's sure to be firing on all cylinders once again, regardless of the role Murphy gives her to play.

Whether it's a powerful witch, an innocent journalist or a tyrannical dictator, here are all of Sarah Paulson's AHS characters ranked worst to best. Spoilers throughout.

10. Susan Atkins (Cult)

This is more of an honourable mention than anything, since Paulson only fills this small role for one episode in Cult, with mere minutes of screen time.

Paulson portrays infamous Manson Family member and murderer Susan Atkins, who in the episode Charles (Manson) In Charge is seen killing Sharon Tate and her friends in her home. It's a grisly re-enactment of the real-life killings, in which Paulson gives it her all to play the unhinged killer.

To date, Atkins is the only historical figure Paulson has ever played, and though she's a blast to watch, she's not around or fully-formed enough to rank any higher than this.
