American Horror Story: Sarah Paulson's Characters Ranked WORST To BEST
8. Shelby Miller (Roanoke)
Shelby Miller is the woman Audrey Tindall portrays in the first half of Roanoke. Shelby (whose "real" self is played by Lily Rabe in the second half) and her experiences form the plot of the documentary "My Roanoke Nightmare." The documentary recounts the tale of Shelby and her husband Matt, who move to an old farmhouse in North Carolina and begin to suspect the place is haunted.
Paulson is great in the role, and Shelby remains the more compelling character of Paulson's dual roles. She's a yoga enthusiast, and arguably Paulson's most endearing, innocent character - just someone who wants to enjoy her hobbies and live in peace with her partner.
Unfortunately, Shelby too suffers from forgettability. By the time the second half of Roanoke kicks in and the plot is remixed, she is all but forgotten and cast aside. She has solid moments, and allows Paulson to have a go at playing yet another traumatised but strong woman (somewhere the actress thrives), but it's just not quite up to the standard of the rest of them.
