American Horror Story: Sarah Paulson's Characters Ranked WORST To BEST

7. Bette And Dot Tattler (Freak Show)

Sarah Paulson American Horror Story
FX

It would be no stretch to say that Bette and Dot are Paulson's most challenging and unique characters. Playing the conjoined twins brilliantly and reminding fans why they love her so much, Paulson has the tough task of controlling two distinct personalities within one body.

Bette is optimistic, kind and naive; Dot is pessimistic and often confrontational. This allows for some great moments of conflict, and their arc in Freak Show is so troubled and awful that it's a wonder they both manage to be endearing characters throughout the season.

The pair form the backbone of Freak Show, and whilst that season has moments where it hits the wrong notes and misses a few beats, Paulson's dual performance and the contrasting personalities of the twins constantly makes for thrilling viewing.

The major issue with them remains their place in one of the show's weakest outings, which boasts a plot constantly threatening to trip up their fantastic arcs and distract from their journey, sometimes making their decisions and beliefs a tad inconsistent.
