One of the biggest plot threads this season was the Soviets' intention of learning more about American stealth technology. Many of Philip and Elizabeth's missions revolved around uncovering information on "Echo," the computer system that will allow them to test designs, and the radar-absorbent material the Americans developed to cloak their planes. They succeeded in acquiring some samples of the radar-absorbent paint, thanks to the sacrifice of American-turned-KGB henchman Fred (played by John Carroll Lynch). However, the Rezidentura's plans on using Nina to make Stan betray his country and give them information on Echo failed. Stan decided to sacrifice Nina and refused to hand over the Echo information, meaning the Soviets only have half of the materials they need. Will they continue to pursue Echo in season three? Or will Fred's death be in vain? There's not much they can do with radar-resistant paint samples, meaning that all of their work hinges on them accessing Echo. Plus, now that Stan knows what they're after, he'll be keeping an even closer eye on the tech in order to make sure the KGB doesn't access it.
