Angel: Every Season Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Season Five
Season Five is an absolute revelation. Taking place after the final season of Buffy and shifting focus to Angel and co taking over the law offices of Wolfram and Hart, Season Five comes in swinging and never once lets up. The characters are all better than ever, the emotion is at all time high, and the writing is more confident and well-paced than previous entries.
The season offers some of the show's most rewarding and compelling arcs, from the welcome and well-executed return of Spike to the growth of Fred and Wesley and their far-too-brief relationship which ends with an episode to rival to anything on Buffy - "A Hole in the World."
It also gave us "Smile Time", "You're Welcome" (which helped, somehow, to clean up the mess that had been made of Cordelia in the previous season), and "Hell Bound".
The star of the show is the relationship between Angel and Spike, who make one of TV's best odd couples, as proven with episodes "Destiny" and "The Girl in Question", where their chemistry is wonderful to watch and their rivalry is electric
We also get to see Andrew again, who proves a solid returning face, and we get to have a look at how the world has changed with the original show's finale. The final arc, wherein the group band together to take on an unstoppable army, is well-done, with numerous twists, deaths and character pay-offs.
And who could ever forget that ending? It's a stroke of genius.
