Archer: EVERY Season Ranked Worst To Best

8. Season One

Archer show
Disney–ABC Domestic Television

This might seem a low ranking for the season that started it all, but rest assured it's not here because it was a poor effort. In fact, it's completely the opposite of that. Setting up the show, the characters, some long-standing jokes, and the world with ease, Archer's debut season is actually pretty extraordinary, and is a prime example of how to explore your characters with both speed and effectiveness.

The reason it's not any higher, in truth, is the fact that it isn't quite as zany and odd-ball as the seasons that followed, and it sometimes relied on the classic spy formula a bit too much. The whole thing is very well controlled, and in a lot of ways Archer is at its best when its let off the leash and allowed to tackle things outside of the idea of "Archer is a spy and a narcissist."

Despite this, there is a lot to love. Archer himself is a wonderful creation, and Judy Greer gave an often scene-stealing voice performance to the whole thing. The second episode - "Training Day" - is also one of the show's best ever outings, pitting Cyril and Archer against each other in some great situations, culminating in the "death" of a stripper (or hooker, if they're dead.)

The ground work is there, and things look promising, there just isn't enough of it.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
