You don't have to watch many episodes to find that Arrested Development is the all-time king of running jokes in a comedy series. Most have a few spread throughout their seasons, but Arrested Development handled running jokes like it was teaching a Master's class on the subject.

If you've seen the show, you probably know of a few running gags, including the aforementioned Tobias' penchant for covering his body with blue paint and the use of "Pop-Pop" as innuendo for sex, but there are so many more. In fact, there are so many running jokes, websites exist to track them all.

One such website, recurringDeVeLOPMeNTs.com contains a list of all the running jokes in the show, which are linked to the episodes in which they first appear. Some of the better-known running jokes include the Stair Car ("Watch out for bridges and hop-ons. You're going to get some hop-ons") and characters saying, "I've made a huge mistake," but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

All told, there are 129 running jokes spread throughout the series, with some that are far subtler than others. Many of these feature allusions to other franchises, including The Peanuts, while others center around the fact that the Bluths can't use hammers.
