Arrested Development Season 5: 18 WTF Moments

8. Michael Always Comes Back

Arrested Development Michael Tobias Murphy Brown

When Michael visits the model home, he come across Tobias carrying out an "acting exercise" where he has assumed the role of George Michael (retainer and all).

His son Murphy-Brown (Kyle Mooney) is meanwhile playing the role of Michael, and when Murphy-Brown flubs a scene, Tobias reams him out.

Tobias says, "This is the simplest character in the entire family! He has one personality trait: he always comes back. Well, that and he always has his hands in his pockets. You got peanuts in there?"

It's a fun addition to the show's constant meta-textual commentary, drawing attention to the fact that no matter how much Michael might appear to hate his family, he keeps getting brought back into their orbit one way or another.

It's an ultra-repetitive plot point at this stage in the show's life, so why not make fun of it?
