Arrow: 6 Things That "Sara" Did Right (And 3 It Didn't)
5. The Return Of Tommy Merlyn
Plenty of people have died over the first two seasons of Arrow, and we didn't care much about most of them. Oliver dropped a lot of bodies during his first year back in Starling City, and death stopped really mattering early on. The first big death to shock audiences out of complacency was that of Tommy Merlyn. Having gone through a hero's journey of his own that developed him from spoiled sensualist playboy into a man of selfless love and responsibility, he was what Oliver could have been if he hadn't returned from the island on the not-so-sane side of the spectrum. Tommy has been missed ever since, and not just because he managed to pull a relatable side out of Laurel Lance. So, when Tommy appeared in the first "Sara" flashback chasing down a lead that Oliver might somehow be alive, he was a sight for sore eyes. Of course, his appearance only led to mutual heartbreak and another step toward Oliver's Season 1 sociopathy, but his was a familiar face that brought a spark to the Hong Kong flashbacks that had thus far been missing.
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
