Arrow: 7 Things You Learn Rewatching Season 1

2. Felicity Was Never The Love Of Oliver Queen's Life

Arrow may have decided to have Oliver Queen marry Felicity Smoak, but all you have to do is watch Season 1 to see that was never the long-term goal... at least not in the first place.

Oliver spent his time on Lian Yu thinking of one woman: Laurel Lance. He returned home with a goal of making amends with one woman: Laurel Lance. And even though he had brief relationships Helena Bertinelli and McKenna Hall, the writers made it clear that he was in love with one woman: Laurel Lance.

Meanwhile, Felicity Smoak was a guest character that popped up from time to time when Oliver needed help with his late night archery-themed escapades... and while the pair had great chemistry, there was no reason to think that their cutesy interactions were worth anything more than the latter's relationships with McKenna and Helena.

Like those two, Felicity's quirky personality couldn't hold a candle to the well-mapped out history (and undeniable chemistry) he had with Laurel - which is why it's a darn shame that the writers tore the comic book royalty apart in favor of something that should have never been more than a short-lived romance.

Who knows, if the writers had stayed the course (like Season 1 alluded to), maybe we wouldn't have had to endure the horrors of the melodramatic fourth season. But alas, Oliver's love life followed in the footsteps of the Queen's Gambit and sunk in explosive fashion.
