Arrow Season 3: 10 Comic Book Stories To Adapt

6. Suicide Squad - 'Kicked In The Teeth'

The Suicide Squad are a much beloved team of DCU supervillains who are forced into deadly black-ops missions by the US government (fronted by notorious hard-ass Amanda 'The Wall' Waller). Part of the fun of the Squad is that it has a mostly rotating roster, given that half of them don't make it out of their 'suicide' missions, and that the team is made up of villains with very little moral code. Basically, bad taste mayhem tends to unfold. Oh, and they usually have explosive devices in their heads that Waller detonates if any of them get out of line. The Squad made an appearance in episode 16 of season two of Arrow, when John Diggle was forced to team up with his arch nemesis Deadshot (one of the very few Squad mainstays). This episode featured a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo from Harley Quinn, a current member of the team in The New 52, and the uber-popular on-off girlfriend/partner/punching bag of The Joker. It has recently been confirmed that a more substantial appearance for Harley was filmed for the season two finale, but it was excised from the final cut. Fans can see it as a deleted scene on the season two DVD, but we hope to see a more lengthy Harley/Suicide Squad appearance in season three. A good place to start when looking for inspiration for a great Squad tale to adapt is 'Kicked In The Teeth', the first story arc from The New 52 relaunch of the book. The story features both Deadshot and Harley Quinn and specialises in the exact kind of anarchic humour and excessive violence that makes any Squad story entertaining. To be honest, we'd mostly love to see if Arrow would be able to present the character of King Shark in it's semi-realistic setting. He's a 'humanoid shark', meaning he has the body of a very large, scary man...and a sharks head. He also enjoys eating people. Make it happen, Arrow, we dare you!
