3. John Diggle
Who He Is: John Diggle is a former soldier whose life changed forever when he was hired as bodyguard to Oliver Queen. He’s since found a purpose in life beyond following the wealthy around on their errands, a dear friend in Felicity, a surrogate brother in Oliver, and a family with his wife and daughter.
The loss of frenemy Deadshot in Season 3 was a bit of a blow, but his demise reintroduced the plot of the H.I.V.E. assassination of Andy Diggle for exploration in Season 4 that will keep John plenty relevant even after his falling out with Oliver.
Why He Cannot Die: John Diggle has been an invaluable friend to Oliver since almost the very beginning of the series. He and Oliver have a deep understanding that has kept a bond between them even as they’ve fought. Oliver has already gone through losing his best friend; killing off a second best friend and comrade-in-arms who also happens to be one of the most important characters of the show would be a mistake.
Additionally, David Ramsey has said that John Diggle is portrayed on Arrow as Oliver, five years in the future. Diggle is the man that Oliver can be if he continues on his upward swing. Prematurely ending his life could stunt a story that has been sold as being about growth.
