Arrow Season 4: 6 Things The Candidate Got Right (And 4 It Didn't)
9. Didn't - Jessica Danforth Running For Mayor
One of the new characters we meet this week is Jessica Danforth, an old friend of Moira Queen, and her daughter Madison. They have a long-overdue catch-up with Oliver and Thea, where Jessica reveals she's going to run for the least desirable job on television, Mayor of Star City. What was previously a running gag that fans used to laugh at becomes a plot device this week, and though the end result is good, getting there isn't. She's a brand new character, so the threat that being Mayor of this city brings isn't quite as keenly felt, and it all comes off as being a little bit predictable. She's going to run, then right at the very second she's about to announce her bid a gun goes off, and she's taken to safety. Despite being under threat and the need for police surveillance 24-7, she still feels it a wise decision to send her daughter to school. Who is then kidnapped. Obviously she's returned later on, and then Jessica decided to pull out of the race that would only exist if she was running because there are no other candidates. It gets the show to where it needs to be by the end, but not much is really done to make her feel like a proper character.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
