Arrow Season 5: 7 Ups And 4 Downs From 'New Recruits'

3. Ragman Begins

Whereas Wild Dog, Curtis Holt and Evelyn Sharp maybe felt a little ‘meh’ for certain portions of New Recruits, Ragman was a far different kettle of fish.

In his interactions with the Green Arrow, this troubled soul came across as far more interesting, intriguing, and engaging then any of the three aforementioned new recruits. Sure, all of these newbies will come to have their own plus points and their own well-defined characters, but for now Ragman seems like an infinitely more interesting character.

What made him so interesting was that he got to interact with the Emerald Archer on a different level to the other newcomers. Instead of having orders barked at him, instead of having doubt thrown over him, Ragman had a civil, mature chat with the Green Arrow, with both on the same playing field.

Added to that, we got to see that Ragman’s backstory – that he’s the only survivor of his town following the Genesis attack – was also one that offers up so many possibilities and adds a different edge to this character.

Still, that voice could maybe do with a little work, though…
