Arrow Season 5: 8 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Legacy'
9. Oliver's Hope
For so much of Arrow’s run to date, we’ve seen Oliver Queen either a) being a total loner, or b) reluctantly working alongside other heroes. As Season 5 opens, though, Ollie is more alone than we’ve seen him in a long time.
What was so well done here was in how the show gave us a slightly different side to Oliver, a side that saw him holding out hope that the old, familiar Team Arrow unit would be back together before we know it. Sure, Diggle may be serving overseas with the Military, Thea may be refusing to return to the hero life, and Laurel may be dead, but Ollie is hesitant to really move on.
This shows a change in attitude for Ollie, as previously he’d have thought nothing of just leaving his previous partners behind the moment that their working arrangement was up. Whilst he’s still hesitant to bring in new faces here, seeing Oliver yearning for the return of some former faces was something fantastically handled by Arrow in this season premiere.
Unfortunately for Ollie, Felicity is far more realistic when it comes to the prospects of bringing the old gang back together.
