Arrow Season 7: 4 Ups & 1 Down From ‘Spartan’

2. Felicity's Concerns Over Her Legacy

One of the season's clever ways of threading its mysterious flash-forward narrative to its present-day story was through the Archer Program.

The heavily sought-after surveillance program in the future all started as a home security system in the present, which Felicity created out of fear that she and her family would be targeted by Ricardo Diaz. Since then, she has been intent on using the program to help people and leave behind a legacy that is more than just Overwatch. Well, at least she did plan to do all that, before Archer ended up in the hands of the Ninth Circle and she was forced to terminate it altogether.

We all already know that it will resurface in the future so, at the moment, how it does so is not really a concern. The important part of Felicity's dilemma here is not the destination, it's the journey.

While the talk of legacy may seem a little out-of-the-blue, it's clear that the show is setting up for the character's departure at the conclusion of the season and, to be honest, it was refreshing to see her discuss her thoughts and desires for the future. Felicity was already brilliant before she joined Team Arrow and it's pretty clear that she'll be brilliant again when she leaves it.
