Arrow Season 7: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Star City Slayer'
2. A Worthy Farewell For Curtis
While the episode was full of jump-scares, the most shocking moment (from a storyline standpoint) was Curtis Holt's rather unexpected exit. Though it had been clear that the writers were building towards something big for the character, this wasn't quite what was expected. In spite of that, it proved to be a worthy send-off.
Ever the moral compass, Curtis struggled with the idea that A.R.G.U.S. had to resort to some not-so-moral approaches in their missions. While he commended their resolve to make the world a safer place, he was ultimately unable to work for the organization when he didn't agree with their methods. Thus, after a lengthy deliberation, he decided to accept a job offer in D.C. where he could create technology to help those in need. So, after signing his half of Helix over to Felicity, he shared a touching farewell with her before bidding Star City adieu.
Throughout his tenure on the show, there have been times that Curtis has struggled to make an impression. As a tech wiz, he was always going to play second-fiddle to Felicity while, as a superhero, he struggled to compete with other larger-than-life personas - but he always tried to hold his own and, on occasion, he succeeded. Nonetheless, he has always been one of the show's most endearing characters, so this feels like the right way to write him off. Not only does it stay true to who Curtis was, it sets up an intriguing story for Felicity.
Despite some of his character's shortcomings, Echo Kellum always managed to provide some much-needed levity to Arrow's darker situations and his presence will undoubtedly be missed on the show.
