Arrow Season 8 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Purgatory'
1. The Crisis (And Harbinger) Is Here
Though undoubtedly a farewell to a great show, Arrow's final season has been equally effective in setting up Crisis On Infinite Earths. Successfully utilising each of its seven episodes to set the stage for the annual crossover - one that has been five years in the making - it has built towards the Crisis in a natural and authentic way. But 'Purgatory' significantly upped the ante.
The discovery that Lyla wasn't just the answer to activating the plutonium weapon, but that she was the weapon was a unique and effective manner of kick-starting her evolution into Harbinger - and the completion of that transformation in the episode's closing moments (which coincided with the arrival of the red skies) could only mean one thing: The Crisis has begun.
Five years of storytelling, and a season full of planning has taken us to this moment, and Arrow has done an outstanding job pulling it altogether. That being said, as excited as we've been for the Crisis, we've been just as excited for each weekly installment of the show's final offering - and to make a show that once fell from grace that compelling again is no small feat.
The Crisis is here, and it couldn't be more exciting. Bravo Arrow, bravo indeed.
