Arrow Series Finale Review: 12 Ups & 4 Downs From 'Fadeout'

Downs...

4. The Original Laurel Lance's Nonsensically Rewritten Destiny

Arrow Black Canary Laurel Lance Katie Cassidy
The CW

There is something romantic about the fact that in Oliver's post-Crisis rebirth of the multiverse, both his best friend Tommy Merlyn and first love Laurel Lance ended up marrying each other. Given how well the pair worked in the show's first season, these two troubled kind-hearted souls deserved to find happiness in each other and it would all be so wonderful if, y'know, Laurel herself wasn't still dead.

Why would the selfless hero Oliver Queen imagine a new world in which his loved ones never died, only for the most important person in his early life to still end up dead? You know why? Plot convenience.

Katie Cassidy is currently portraying Earth-2 Laurel on the show, and as that character was forced to ask why the original Laurel wasn't revived, we were all left wondering why the one character who deserved better from the show right from the very beginning once again was left deserving so much better.
