Avatar The Last Airbender: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
5. Sokka
On paper, it is easy to look at Sokka as a simple comic relief role that serves no grander purpose outside of showing that not everyone can bend. However, his character means so much more than this, and the comedy is simply a bonus - so long as you find his humour amusing.
The brother of Katara and "adult" of the southern water tribe, Sokka has always had something to prove and often overcompensates. His desire to be seen as a true warrior is arrogant and naïve at first. Still, throughout the series, he evolves into a thoughtful and careful forward planner and legitimate tribe leader.
Sokka takes a fascinating journey in how he first views being brave and strong as physical ability but comes to learn that creativity, intelligence and empathy are a critical part of being a warrior and discovers where his strengths lie. Despite not being able to bend elements, he has an integral place in the group as the man who comes up with the plan.
One final note, he ranks lower as although his development is excellent, his humour and constant energy are somewhat divisive. For some, it's a highlight of the show, and for others, it's an unwanted distraction.
