Batman: The Animated Series: 10 Worst Episodes

7. The Ultimate Thrill - 1998

Another episode on this list, 'I've Got Batman In My Basement', made the cut because it catered far too much to a younger demographic. The Ultimate Thrill makes the list for the exact opposite reason - it's filled with so much sexual tension and innuendo that it almost crosses a line into parodying Batman's dark, brooding nature.

The episode features a new villain (who would also pop up on Superman's series a few months later) named Roxy Rocket, a former movie stuntwoman who lives for the thrill of almost dying and decides that teaming up with the Penguin to square off with Batman is indeed the ultimate thrill.

Roxy is unabashedly sexual, no doubt pushing what WB censors would allow even in 1998. She constantly equates her scraps with Batman to sex, telling him that 'he's the best', throwing out words like 'climax' and spending much of her time riding a red rocket, a sexual allegory if there ever was one. The last few minutes of the show feature Roxy basically having one long orgasm as she and Batman speed towards death.

While there had certainly been risque' moments on B:TAS before (Harley rising from a huge pool of pudding and asking the Joker if he wants some of her 'pie' comes to mind,) Roxy is almost a one-note character who is defined by her sexuality and who was simply too over the top for the Gotham we knew.
