Batman: The Animated Series: 10 Worst Episodes

4. Prophecy Of Doom - 1992

This is another episode that suffers from having a 'villain of the week' as opposed to an established member of Batman's villains roster. In this case, the villains are two petty conmen who are convincing the wealthy of Gotham City to put their money into their hands to prepare for the coming 'Great Fall' of society.

This episode's cardinal sin is that it's boring. Neither Nostromos nor Lucas, the villains, are truly any threat to Batman, and the only real suspense in the finale is if the daughter of one of Bruce's friends is going to die after being tied to a giant model of the planet Mars (it makes sense in context, honest.)

The storyline is like one from the '50s or '60s Batman comics - silly villains with a plot to get rich quick, a fight in a planetarium with giant planets rolling around, and a result that will be forgotten by the next issue / episode. It's frustrating to watch an episode like this that more or less just takes up space, not furthering any character development or plotline.

In addition, compared to the usual flowing animation, the spinning planets in the planetarium finale looks...well, off. Bruce Timm blames this on the animation company assigned to the work, Akom, as opposed to one of the other animation houses that DC and Warner Bros used.
