Batwoman Season 1 Premiere: 7 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Pilot'

2. Ruby Rose's Performance

The casting of Ruby Rose as Kate Kane was rather divisive, as some were thrilled at the idea of her taking on the mantle of Batwoman while others were dead set against it - claiming that her previous acting suggested she wasn't capable of bringing the character to life. Well, the Pilot certainly gave fans plenty of chances to see her in action and it's clear that those naysayers underestimated her potential.

We all knew that she looked badass, so that was the part she was always going to nail. And she did - whether walking down an eerie hallway in street clothes or spreading her wings on a skyscraper as Batwoman, Rose was committed to everything that she did and produced the perfect broody performance.

But the most striking of her offerings came in the flashback sequences (in which Kate lost Sophie to the Academy), as Rose's subtle performance was both perfectly in-line with her character and yet more emotional than we ever expected to see Kate so early on. And it worked in solidifying Sophie as a major part of the character's life.

Rose looks set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Michael Keaton, Heath Ledger and even the Arrowverse's own Grant Gustin, as an unlikely performer who manages to silence the outraged critics with her strong performances.

Bravo Ruby, bravo.
