Batwoman Season 1 Premiere: 7 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Pilot'
1. Off To A Strong Start
In spite of the fact that the episode felt like a rushed film with a strong conclusion, the writers made it very clear that we are only just getting started - and after that episode, that is most definitely a good thing.
What made Batwoman's pilot episode work so well is how, despite the limited time, it managed to juggle a number of engaging family-driven storylines alongside the theatrics of it all. But more than that, it was so intricately plotted that every major story move seemed to impact the next.
Kate always wanted to be a Crow until Batwoman came along and now she's been given that opportunity and doesn't know what to do with it. She returned to save the love of her life, only to find out that she was married to someone else. And she always blamed Batman for her family's death, only to discover that he did all he could to save them - a discovery that eventually led her to take up his mantle... and even discover that Alice could be her long thought-to-be-dead sister Beth.
Even though some scenes felt a little truncated, the pilot was, for the most part, like a well-oiled machine that accomplished what it set out to do and, in the process, set the stage for what looks to be an incredibly interesting debut season.
