Batwoman Season 1 Review: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Down, Down, Down'

3. Alice's Side Of The Story

One of the bonuses of giving Kate her own story this week was that allowed the main narrative to continue through Alice instead - giving Rachel Skarsten a chance to prove that her character's journey is anything but a secondary arc.

From the nightmare that she was having to her surprisingly poignant phone call with Jacob, the writers were very clear in their attempts to portray the character as more than a typically-unhinged villain, and they were incredibly effective in doing just that.

In spite of her eccentric personality, it's hard not to get drawn into the emotional side of things as we wonder if she really is Beth or not, and that's some darn good characterisation right there.
