Batwoman Season 1 Review: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Down, Down, Down'

2. The Dynamic Between Kate And Alice

Batwoman Ruby Rose
The CW

Who would have thought that Kate's very first official mission as Batwoman would end with her being saved by the person that brought the Bat-within to life in the first place. But that's just an example of how complex the relationship between her and Alice already is - and we're only three episodes in.

Easily the most compelling dynamic on the show, the relationship between this pair has continued to subvert our expectations by laying all of the cards on the table pretty early on. Kate discovered that Alice might be Beth in the concluding moments of the premiere, while Alice figured out she was Batwoman by the end of the second, and it left us all wondering it it was peeling back the layers much too soon.

But if we learned anything from 'Down, Down, Down', it's that there are still more layers to this story and that, in spite of Alice's villainy (and blatant refusal to stop killing), Kate isn't ready to give up on her sister just yet. The secrets may be out in the open, and yet the stakes remain high. And with that, it's easy to see why the dynamic between the two is anchoring the show, and it's going to be interesting to watch as it develops further.
