Batwoman Season 1 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Rabbit Hole'

1. Two Sides Of The Same Coin

While 'The Rabbit Hole' spotlighted the show's main narrative, it was very much a contained story surrounding Kate's attempts to prove to everyone that Alice was actually Beth. However, the doubters weren't her biggest enemies it seems, as she was the one who let herself believe it so deeply that when she discovered Alice brutally killed people, it was almost as if she started to hope she was wrong after all.

On the other hand, Alice was so busy holding onto the Kate that she (or Beth) was close to all those years ago that she hadn't realised that the person standing in front of her had also changed significantly since the accident. And thus, upon discovering that her apparent sister was actually Batwoman, she began to realise that the two weren't all that different.

That's why the Alice/Kate saga is so darn compelling. The pair were so scarred by that tragic accident that they have become filled with darkness. That similarity, however, is also what separates them, because while Alice spread that internal darkness, Kate used her's to inspire light.

Can Alice be redeemed, or is she too far gone? Does Kate want Alice to be Beth anymore now that she knows what she's capable of? Can two sides of the same coin do anything other than remain parallel to each other? The internal conflict here should not be this juicy at this early stage, and yet it's so gripping, drawing us in and leaving us all wondering what comes next.
