Batwoman Season 1 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Rabbit Hole'

Batwoman takes us further down the rabbit hole of family history in another compelling offering.

Batwoman's long-teased debut was nothing short of a triumph.

Rarely has a pilot episode caused so much division before it even hits the air, but thanks to a highly questionable trailer, the excitement for the CW's upcoming Arrowverse show died during the summer - long before its October premiere. And yet the episode itself managed to turn it all around, boasting a compelling narrative while showcasing a lot of potential.

However, that was only the first episode, and it was up to the writers to prove that there was more to Batwoman's story than just her beginnings and that they can not only maintain the standard but increase it as the season goes on.

That's where the second episode comes in, as it saw Kate Kane attempt to convince her father, and herself, that the murderous Alice was actually her long-lost twin sister Beth. But as she used Batman's identity to do so, she was unaware of the fact that Gotham was quickly falling in love with the notion that The Dark Knight had returned.

All in all, 'The Rabbit Hole' lived up to its intriguing title, taking us deeper into the mystery of the Kane family while firmly solidifying Ruby Rose's Kate Kane as a strong protagonist. That said, it was her villainous counterpart who stood out this week.
