Batwoman Season 1 Review: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'The Rabbit Hole'

2. Rachel Skarsten's Performance

Alice may have only been on our screens for two episodes so far, but she's already one of the Arrowverse's best Big Bads. A bold statement to make and, whether or not you agree with that, the fact of the matter is that when Alice is on our screens, you sit up and pay attention - the reason being Rachel Skarsten's enigmatic performance.

In a way, 'The Rabbit Hole' lived up to its name, because it took us further into Alice's psyche and allowed us to see some of what was motivating her. Though she's clearly unhinged, it's hard not to sympathise with her - and that's a sign of just how good Skarsten is.

The veteran actress absolutely nails the character's loud attention-grabbing behaviour, commanding the screen at every given opportunity, but what really stood out this week was how she tackled all the little things, from Alice's unusually warm smile when she agreed to allow Kate to test her blood, to the seconds of genuine emotions during one of the character's eccentric monologues.

Alice gets more interesting by the episode, just as Skarsten gets more show-stealing. Watching both of them grow over the season will undoubtedly wield some wonderful (or wonderland) results.
