Batwoman Season 1 Review: 9 Ups & 5 Downs

The CW's Arrowverse had built itself a dominant family of superhero shows as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow entertained millions of fans around the world for a number of years. Several months ago, that family grew.

The addition of Batwoman changed things up in a shared universe that leans on familiarity far too often, officially tying it to DC Comics' most famous superhero in the process. But Batwoman is about more than its references to The Dark Knight, and it sure wasn't afraid to let audiences know that right from the offset.

A show that rubbed people up the wrong way because of its admittedly awful debut trailer, it came out of the gate fighting like it had something to prove because it did. And here we are in the aftermath of the season finale, the aptly titled 'O, Mouse!', and we can safely say that it did just that.

Batwoman uses the familiarity of the Arrowverse to find its footing, but as soon as it does, it throws the rule book out the window, ramping up the drama, action and its compelling central narrative to produce something refreshingly different. It's more than the haters give it credit for, it's more than fans could have asked for, and it's certainly more than its initial trailer ever suggested it would be.

With the show's debut run having come to an end, let's reflect on what was an unforgettable first season.
