Better Call Saul: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode

5. Peter Schuler - JMM (S5E7)

Better Call Saul Matador
Netflix

Peter Schuler is the head of a fast food company, which oversees Gus Fring's restaurant. Being a longtime friend of Gus, Schuler helps him anyway he can, including with his illegal activities.

He may not have had any dialogue in Breaking Bad but Schuler certainly made an impact. After the police prepared to question him about Gus' meth distribution, Schuler calmly locked himself in a bathroom and electrocuted himself to death with a defibrillator.

Because he was an enigmatic character, fans hoped he'd return in Better Call Saul so we could learn a bit more about him. That's why it was a nice surprise to see Schuler pop up in the episode, JMM. After having a business meeting with fast food reps, Schuler privately meets with Gus and Lydia to discuss problems in their criminal operations. Terrified he might lose millions, start a turf war, or have his reputation destroyed, Schuler shows he's wrestling with paranoia and anxiety.

In this conversation, Schuler makes it clear that having his illicit affairs publicly revealed is the worst case scenario. Considering how rattled he is at the prospect of being exposed, it's no surprise he took his own life when the police came knocking on his door.
