Better Call Saul: 10 Things You Only Notice Rewatching Season 1
1. The Address On Jimmy's Cheque
After receiving his pay for another poorly remunerated public defender job, Jimmy angrily marches up to the window to protest the fee. Slamming the cheque for $700 on the glass, viewers are likely more drawn to McGill's need for a bigger payday. As this is an origin story, viewers will be too interested in noting how Jimmy puts monetary gain over the more honorable gain of defending the little guy. It's one of the many inciting incidents that leads to the origin of Saul Goodman's less moral, more lucrative way of life.
However, looking more closely at the cheque, a surprising Breaking Bad reference is included. James M McGill's registered address is not the nail salon out of which he practices law, but 129 Juan Tabo NE in Albuquerque. It's on 6353 Juan Tabo Avenue where Walter White's protege and potential successor Gael Boetticher lived before he was murdered by Jesse Pinkman.
Of course, Jimmy is no longer residing there later in the series, and has upgraded to considerably more elaborate digs by the time of Breaking Bad, as evidenced by the opening of Better Call Saul. However, living so closely to Gael is another moment that emphasizes the meticulously created, interlinked universe of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould.
