Better Call Saul: 10 Things You Only Notice Rewatching Season 1

8. Belize Bingo

Better Call Saul
AMC

As part of his work in elder law, Jimmy regularly visits the Sandpiper Crossing retirement facility with the hopes of finding steady work. When he stumbles upon fraud and theft, he's presented with a legitimate way to both make money and do the right thing. Until it's taken away from him.

That comes later, but as his visits to Sandpiper increase, he hands out Jimmy McGill-branded Jell-O cups and dresses like trusted TV lawyer Matlock, who is beloved of senior citizens. He also hosts weekly bingo games. Unsurprisingly, Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman is a natural bingo caller. It's in one of these games of bingo that Jimmy makes an ominous reference to Breaking Bad.

In the Season 1 finale, Jimmy shouts out the letter B, for Belize. The Central American nation is a Breaking Bad euphemism for "death", following Mike's trip there in the final season. In amongst all the other origin story stuff going on in the Season 1 finale - Jimmy's roots in Chicago, the origin of the pinkie ring, the Kevin Costner story - it's easy to miss this ominous shout-out the first time around.
